KOTA KINABALU: Gagasan Rakyat Acting Youth Chief, Azrul Ibrahim, has strongly condemned Senator Robin Padilla's call to revive the Philippines' claim over Sabah, labeling it "irresponsible" and a violation of sovereignty and international law.
In a statement, Azrul reaffirmed that Sabah remains an integral part of sovereign Malaysia, rejecting any attempts to question its status.
He dismissed links between the claim and oil or energy resources as "baseless," accusing them of diverting attention from the Philippines' internal crises.
"Sabah is not a commodity to solve another country's problems," Azrul emphasised.
He urged the Foreign Ministry to lodge a formal protest and called on the federal government to monitor the issue closely to protect national sovereignty.
Azrul also appealed to Sabahans to stay calm, united, and unmoved by provocative external rhetoric.
Gagasan Rakyat Youth pledged to stand firm in defending the state.
This was a response to a Facebook Post, where Senator Robin Padilla urged President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. to revive the Philippines’ claim over Sabah
He said the Philippine government should send emissaries to Malaysia to negotiate about territorial claims over Sabah.
