KENINGAU: Over 100 participants joined the Basic Gana Ethnic Dance Workshop organised by the Keningau Cultural Association (KenCA) in collaboration with the Sabah Gana Association (PGS) and supported by the Keningau District Tourism and Cultural Association at Kampung Buang Sayang Hall, Bingkor, recently.
The programme aimed to preserve and promote the Gana community’s cultural heritage by teaching participants the history, basic movements, rhythm, and symbolic meanings of traditional Gana dances.
Chairman of the Keningau District Tourism and Cultural Association, Rafie Datuk Robert, who officiated the event, reminded participants that preserving culture is a shared responsibility, especially among the younger generation.
“Culture reflects our identity. If we fail to preserve it today, future generations will only know it through stories and pictures,” he said.
The workshop attracted members of the Sabah Gana Association, Kujau Gana Nabai Sabah Association (KGNS), Gana Ethnic Residents’ Association of Bingkor, as well as Gana youth and locals who showed strong interest in safeguarding their traditional arts.
KenCA thanked all contributors, including organisers, instructors, and participants, for their support and commitment to making the workshop a success.
