KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Economic Development and Investment Authority (SEDIA) has been called upon to intensify its efforts in promoting the use of drone technology to accelerate development across the state.
Sabah's Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor, highlighted that drone technology offers a valuable tool for increasing productivity and efficiently monitoring development projects, in line with the state's growth objectives.
"Drone technology has already enabled SEDIA to speed up land planning and environmental monitoring processes, supporting Sabah’s broader development goals," he said.
Hajiji added that SEDIA holds a critical role in driving Sabah's economic progress through the Sabah Development Corridor (SDC) 2.0 Action Plan.
This plan prioritizes investment in agriculture, infrastructure, and green technology, aligning with Sabah's vision for sustainable growth and enhanced global competitiveness.
The Chief Minister's remarks were delivered by Sabah Minister of Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship, Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe, at the Sabah Drone Open Day held at the Sabah International Convention Centre.
Hajiji emphasized the state government's commitment to promoting drone technology across multiple sectors, including agriculture, tourism, construction, logistics, and security.
"Drone technology has also been instrumental in alleviating workforce shortages in the agriculture sector," he noted.
He called for stronger collaboration among government agencies, industry players, researchers, and local communities to advance the adoption of drone technology.
"Such cooperation will be essential to driving Sabah’s economic growth and innovation," said Hajiji, who also serves as the chairman of SEDIA.
