SANDAKAN: LDP Vice-President Chong Thien Ming has urged the Sandakan Municipal Council (JANS) to remain on high alert for pipe-related issues amid the ongoing hot and dry weather.

With temperatures hovering between 30°C and 35°C, the prolonged dry spell is increasing the likelihood of frequent pipe bursts.

“More regular monitoring is essential,” he stressed.

Chong emphasised the importance of maintaining a continuous and stable water supply, particularly for residential areas.

“JANS must prioritise swift repairs and rapid response, especially where households are affected,” he said.

He also advised the public to take precautions against the heat. Residents are encouraged to stay well hydrated to prevent heat-related illnesses such as heatstroke and to limit exposure to direct sunlight.

Students and organisers of outdoor activities were urged to exercise extra caution. Prolonged exposure to the sun, he warned, may lead to dizziness, headaches and severe dehydration.

With the current weather pattern expected to persist, both authorities and the public must remain vigilant.
