KIULU: A Kiulu Higher Education Institution (HEI) Student Club should be established as a platform for students here to organise leadership and community activities.

Kiulu State Assemblyman Datuk Joniston Bangkuai stated that such a club would not only strengthen relationships among students but could also serve as a foundation for closer interaction with the leadership in Kiulu.

"I believe that HEI students from Kiulu have great potential to contribute to community development.

“With this club, they can carry out various meaningful programmes that benefit not only themselves but also the community," he said during a recent meeting with HEI students.

Joniston also committed to supporting the organisation of activities for the club and is ready to provide the necessary assistance.

The proposal for the establishment of the club has been well received by a group of HEI students led by Christella Moureen Yain, a final-year Bachelor of Laws student at Universiti Utara Malaysia.

Christella also expressed their commitment to forming a pro tem committee as an initial step towards the establishment of the club.

"I believe that with a club as proposed by Datuk Joniston, we can play a more active role in contributing to the development of Kiulu," she said.

As a sign of support for the youth, Joniston previously announced a fund of RM50,000 earlier this year for youth activities in the Kiulu constituency.

Meanwhile, during two youth programmes organised by the Seventh Day Adventist Church last weekend, Joniston emphasised the importance of leadership and discipline among young people.

The programmes provided him with an opportunity to interact with the youth from Generation Y and to share his views on leadership development.

“To cultivate good leaders, discipline and leadership values must be nurtured from an early age.

“Young people need to continually strive to enhance their skills and be good role models in society," he said.
