KUALA LUMPUR: Non-examination year dormitory students who returned home for the Chinese New Year holiday recently are not allowed to return to the hostel for now.

Senior Minister of Education Datuk Dr. Radzi Jidin said these students will instead undergo full online teaching and learning process (PdPR) at home.

“The decision was made to ensure that 2021 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) candidates are protected from Covid-19 and able to sit for the examination in a safe and orderly manner.

"We will ensure that compliance with standard operating procedures (SOP) in boarding schools under the Ministry of Education (MOE) is enhanced," he said through a video recording uploaded on the ministry’s Facebook page today.

Radzi also mentioned that the MOE would also enhance its monitoring in day schools so that the SOPs are properly complied with.

He explained that parents are also responsible for ensuring that children do not attend school if they experience any symptoms, especially when schools reopen starting next week.

"I ask for the good services of parents to ensure that children do not attend school if there are any symptoms to ensure that the school environment is safe," he said.
