KIULU: The construction and upgrading of agricultural roads in Kiulu are bringing tangible benefits to local farmers, improving access to farms and encouraging greater productivity in the rural community.
For farmer Joyrul Somudin from Kampung Balabakan, the new agricultural road has made it easier to manage his hill paddy and wetland crops. He has also built a fish pond using a nearby water stream as part of his expanded farming activities.
“It’s now much easier for us to manage our crops and harvests. The improved access also motivates farmers to keep working on their land,” he said.
Joyrul hopes the initiative will continue so farmers can farm more efficiently and secure better yields.
The Balabakan–Singgaron agricultural road is one of 47 roads identified for upgrading in Kiulu this year. Several others have already been opened or are under construction, benefiting more than 1,400 farmers cultivating 6,680 acres of farmland in the area.
Kiulu Assemblyman Datuk Joniston Bangkuai said the road project is part of a wider agricultural development plan, supported by RM1.5 million in assemblyman’s funds allocated earlier this year in coordination with the Tuaran District Agriculture Office and the Ministry of Rural Development.
“These agricultural roads are crucial for giving farmers better access to their land,” Joniston said.
He added that improved infrastructure not only supports farming but also strengthens Kiulu’s growing agro-tourism potential.
“Upgrading these facilities makes farmers’ work easier and opens new opportunities for agro-tourism, helping boost rural income. We want this initiative to continue so the benefits can be enjoyed in the long term,” he said.
