KOTA BELUD: Michael Liman, the newly elected Chairman of the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK), of Kg. Taginambur Batu 10, Kota Belud, has expressed gratitude to the government for fulfilling the community’s wish for improved road access.

However, he has also raised concerns regarding the lack of communication about the environmental impact of the upgrading project.

Michael said, “We are very grateful to the government for granting our wish to have proper road access to our village. It is truly a great blessing for the community. Our only regret is that there was no explanation given, neither from the Public Works Department (JKR) nor the contractor, regarding the soil erosion and the fruit trees that were affected as a result of the road upgrading project.”

He highlighted the impact on the local community, particularly in Capernaum, where water-based activities are vital.

“Capernaum has been badly impacted, as our main activities are water-based. We are unable to draw water from the muddy river to fill our swimming pools,” Michael who is also the proprietor of Capernaum Garden, a tourism destination, added.

Michael announced that he plans to organise a meeting with villagers to gather their feedback and concerns.

“As the new Chairman, I will hold a meeting with the villagers to listen to their voices, and I will bring any findings to JKR for discussion,” he stated.

The community hopes that their concerns will be addressed and that future projects will include proper communication and environmental considerations.
