KOTA KINABALU: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) Acting President Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Joachim Gunsalam has strongly denied allegations linking him to a bribery scandal involving mineral mining licences in Sabah.

In a statement released today, Dr Joachim described the report by Malaysiakini as “grossly irresponsible” and accused it of being a deliberate attempt to damage his reputation.

"I firmly deny the allegations implicating me in the purported bribery scandal involving Sabah mineral mining licences," said Dr Joachim, who also serves as Deputy Chief Minister II and Minister of Local Government and Housing.

“I view the report as grossly irresponsible with ill-intention aimed at tarnishing my reputation,” he added.

Despite the allegations, the Kundasang assemblyman affirmed his commitment to his duties in the state Cabinet and to his constituents.

“I will not be distracted by any attempts to discredit me and remain sincerely committed to carrying out my responsibilities... to the best of my ability,” he said.

Addressing PBS members and supporters, Dr Joachim called for unity and composure in the face of the controversy.

“As Acting President, I call upon all PBS members, as well as our supporters, to stay calm, united and focused. Let us continue to work hard for the people,” he urged.

Dr Joachim concluded by thanking the public for their continued support, stating that he would face the situation “with a clear heart and conscience.”
