KOTA KINABALU: The KK Hop-On Hop-Off City Tour Bus was officially launched at KK Sentral today, marking a new milestone in the city’s tourism landscape.

It was officially launched by Sabah’s Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment, Datuk Seri Panglima Christina Liew, who was represented by Assistant Minister Datuk Joniston Bangkuai.

In her speech, Liew said the introduction of the service not only offers a convenient mode of sightseeing but also places Kota Kinabalu alongside other world-class tourist destinations such as London, Paris, Kuala Lumpur and several ASEAN cities that already operate hop-on hop-off buses.

“The KK Hop-On Hop-Off is more than just a bus service, it is a new way of seeing, experiencing, and celebrating the beauty of our city. This service will allow both our visitors and locals to explore Kota Kinabalu’s beauty, culture, and history in a seamless, comfortable, and flexible way,” she said.

Highlighting its significance, she described the service as “a journey through the city’s heartbeat, from bustling markets and historic landmarks to the scenic waterfront and vibrant food scene.”

She added that the mobile platform would showcase Sabah’s charm “in motion”.

Liew stressed that the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to sustainable urban mobility, inclusive tourism, and economic revitalisation. It also underscores the value of collaboration between government agencies, the city council, and the private sector.

“This is a timely initiative in preparation for Visit Malaysia Year 2026, which is just three and a half months away,” she noted.

The Minister commended Kota Kinabalu City Hall and private stakeholders for their innovative approach, saying the service embodies the goals of making tourism more accessible, immersive, and affordable.

“KK Hop-On Hop-Off allows people to discover Kota Kinabalu at their own pace, hop on, hop off, explore, take a snapshot, eat, shop, learn, and enjoy,” she said.

Also present during the event were Datuk Phoong Kin Zhe Minister of Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship, Datuk Chan Foon Hin Kota Kinabalu Member of Parliament and Datuk Dr Sabin Samitah Mayor of Kota Kinabalu among others.
