KPJ Sabah Pioneers Cutting-Edge IVUS–Avvigo+ System, Elevating Cardiac Precision in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: KPJ Sabah Specialist Hospital proudly announces the introduction of the Intravascular Ultrasound (IVUS) – Avvigo+ System, a next-generation diagnostic technology that enhances precision, safety, and effectiveness in cardiovascular care.

As the first hospital in Sabah to install and operate this advanced system, the launch marks a significant milestone in the evolution of cardiac healthcare within the state.

The launching ceremony, held at Kinabalu Hall, Level 8, was officiated by Mohamad Faizal Mohamed, Chief Executive Officer of KPJ Sabah Specialist Hospital, who performed the ribbon-cutting alongside Dr. Rowland Chin and Dr. Chong Wei Loong, Resident Consultant Interventional Cardiologists; Dr. Peter Ong, Resident Consultant General Surgeon; and Alice Rina Kandadi, Operations Manager. They were joined by Madam Muneeswari Velautham, Chief Nursing Officer, and Teo San Siu, Product Specialist in Interventional Cardiology from Boston Scientific, the technology partner behind the IVUS–Avvigo+ system.

The IVUS–Avvigo+ system delivers real-time, high-resolution imaging from within blood vessels, enabling cardiologists to accurately identify arterial blockages, optimise stent placement, and improve procedural outcomes. This breakthrough underscores KPJ Sabah’s unwavering commitment to advancing patient-centred, precise, and safer cardiac treatment.

Mohamad Faizal Mohamed highlighted that introducing the IVUS–Avvigo+ system aligns with KPJ Healthcare Berhad’s mission to continuously adopt medical innovations that enhance patient care.

“This milestone not only strengthens our position as a leader in medical excellence but also reaffirms our commitment to making world-class healthcare accessible to the people of Sabah,” he said.

The event was attended by hospital consultants, nurses, staff members, and representatives from Boston Scientific.
