KOTA KINABALU: The Minister of Women, Health and People’s Wellbeing Sabah (KWKKR), Datuk Julita Majungki, visited Queen Elizabeth II Hospital (HQE II) here today as part of her commitment to enhancing the quality of healthcare services across all facilities in Sabah.

This working visit forms part of a series of visits to hospitals throughout the state, following her earlier visit to the Duchess of Kent Hospital in Sandakan.

The purpose of the visit was to directly assess hospital operations as well as the needs of both staff and patients.

“This is a working visit I had intended to carry out together with the Sabah State Health Department (JKNS) and the Ministry team. Out of the 24 hospitals in Sabah, this is only the second I have visited,” she said when met by the media.

She noted that the visit allowed her to observe first-hand several challenges faced by the hospital, including issues related to patient and staff comfort.

“There are several matters that need to be addressed through cooperation between the Ministry of Health and the state government, such as parking facilities. This is important not only for patients, but also for doctors, nurses and other staff here,” she explained.

Regarding the upgrading of the Sabah Heart Centre at HQE II, Julita said that preliminary works and processes within the existing hospital building are progressing smoothly.

“The existing space is being upgraded to establish a more advanced, dedicated section for the Sabah Heart Centre. Physically, the upgrading works have not fully entered that phase yet, but several phases are being planned and are in the process of implementation,” she said.

She stressed that such visits are crucial to ensure that every hospital in Sabah operates efficiently and is able to provide more comfortable services.

“Through these visits, we are able to identify real priorities on the ground and plan follow-up actions more effectively,” she added.

Also present were Assistant Minister of KWKKR, Datuk Rina Jainal; Permanent Secretary of KWKKR, Datuk Maria Chong; Director of the Sabah State Health Department (JKNS), Datuk Dr William Gotulis; and Director of HQE II, Dr Ferro Firdaus Ibrahim.
