KOTA KINABALU: Party members were urged to continue maintaining unity and stability within the party as PBS prepares for leadership elections and future electoral challenges.

The Secretary-General of Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS), Datuk Julita Majungki, said this during the celebration of PBS’s 41st anniversary at Dewan Hakka here on Thursday.

She he reminded that every member bears a collective responsibility to uphold the spirit of solidarity, which has been the cornerstone of PBS’s strength since its establishment.

According to Julita, this year marks a significant period for the party as leadership elections will be held at divisional levels across the state.

“While we go through the process of renewing party leadership, we must always remember the greater responsibility, that is, to preserve the party that has been inherited from our predecessors,” she said.

She stressed that stability and unity within the party are vital to ensure PBS remains strong and prepared to face political challenges in the future.

At the same time, Julita also encouraged young members to step forward and assume leadership roles within the party, starting from the branch and division levels before progressing to higher tiers.

However, she cautioned that young leaders need to understand and internalise the values and principles that form the foundation of PBS’s struggle.

She stated that these principles were shaped by the party’s early leaders, including its founder Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan and PBS President Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Johnity Ongkili, who continue to serve as guiding principles for the party’s direction to this day.

“As aspiring young leaders wishing to lead, it is vital for us to understand the party’s DNA, which was established by our predecessors,” she said.

She added that party members must always unite and be prepared to defend PBS’s struggles and the interests of Sabah and its people, especially as the political landscape continues to evolve.
