SINGAPORE: Malaysia Airlines has unveiled its latest film for China and key global markets, titled "Thousand-Mile Horse: Journeying Together in the Year of the Horse." Released in tandem with the Lunar New Year, the film signifies a milestone in the airline’s ongoing growth in China and underlines its long-term commitment to strengthening ties with the Chinese market.

More than a seasonal marketing campaign, "Thousand-Mile Horse" embodies Malaysia Airlines’ dedication to deepening connections between China and Malaysia. The airline is actively expanding its network, re-establishing strategic gateways, and reinforcing Kuala Lumpur’s status as a pivotal transit hub linking China to ASEAN, Australia, and beyond.

In January 2026, the carrier resumed daily non-stop services to Chengdu, expanding its Greater China network to seven gateways, including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Xiamen, Hong Kong, and Taipei. In 2025, Malaysia Airlines transported 860,000 passengers between China and Malaysia, operating 52 flights weekly across its Chinese network, a clear demonstration of its commitment to facilitating cultural exchange and business opportunities.

Bryan Foong, CEO of Airline Business at Malaysia Aviation Group, commented: “China remains one of our most important and dynamic markets. We are deepening our presence, rebuilding key gateways, and investing in meaningful engagement with Chinese travellers. 'Thousand-Mile Horse' reflects not just the symbolism of the Lunar New Year but also our long-term ambition to grow with this market, enhance connectivity, and create memorable journeys for passengers travelling between China, Malaysia, and the wider region.”

Coinciding with the Year of the Horse, the film draws on the enduring Chinese literary symbol of the "Thousand-Mile Horse" representing endurance, strength, and forward momentum. Within Malaysia Airlines’ China strategy, this signifies not only aspiration but also acceleration, a confident stride into a new phase of expansion and market presence.

The film begins with a child's simple question: “What is a Thousand-Mile Horse and what does it mean?” As two young brothers explore this mythical creature through the everyday rhythms of home life, the story unfolds through small moments of curiosity, culminating in a pivotal airport scene where the child points to a Malaysia Airlines aircraft and declares, “I’ve found it, the Thousand-Mile Horse is here.” The narrative mirrors the airline’s own journey of growth and ambition in China.

As part of Malaysia Airlines’ "Time For" global campaign, which encourages travellers to rediscover meaningful journeys, the film complements its content series, "Elevating Moments, One Journey at a Time." These initiatives highlight the airline’s focus on delivering warm, thoughtful travel experiences rooted in Malaysian Hospitality.

From attentive onboard service to thoughtful gestures like Kids’ Activity Packs, Malaysia Airlines continues to prioritise comfort, culinary excellence, and genuine care, extending Malaysian Hospitality beyond the flight. As the Year of the Horse signifies speed and endurance, Malaysia Airlines enters 2026 with renewed momentum, responsibly expanding capacity, reinforcing its commercial foundations, and pursuing sustainable growth across Greater China.

"Thousand-Mile Horse" is more than a symbolic film; it’s a powerful signal of Malaysia Airlines’ confident return, expanding footprint, and unwavering commitment to the Chinese market.
