MATUNGGONG: A record 108 high-achieving Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) 2025 students from Matunggong received cash incentives at a ceremony in the Matunggong Sub-District Secretariat Mini Hall here on Saturday, marking seven straight years of rising academic excellence.

Students from SMK Pinawantai Kudat, SMK Sikuati, and SMK Sikuati II, plus eight studying outside the district, collected awards ranging from RM500 for 5A scores to RM1,000 for 10A.

Sabah Minister of Women, Health, and People's Wellbeing (KWKKR) Datuk Julita Majungki, who launched the programme in 2019, hailed the progress during the event she officiated.

"Since this initiative began seven years ago, Matunggong's top performers have steadily increased without fail."

"Today, we're celebrating more 7A, 8A, and even 10A results, clear proof that consistent support drives real gains," she said.

The Matunggong assemblywoman also urged recipients to shape their futures wisely.

"Your path ahead depends on daily choices. Opt for purpose over impulse, discipline over fleeting motivation, and integrity over shortcuts."

Impressive School Breakdowns

SMK Pinawantai: 11 with 5A, 7 with 6A, 5 with 7A, 2 with 8A, 4 with 9A.

SMK Sikuati: 18 with 5A, 12 with 6A, 3 with 7A.

SMK Sikuati II: 16 with 5A, 5 with 6A, 5 with 7A, 1 with 8A, 4 with 9A.

Standouts included two 10A scorers from outside the district, underscoring the area's growing talent pool.

Clariryan Fadrer Janius (SMK Pinawantai, 9A) credited discipline, "I'm thrilled after all the hard work, consistency, focus, and discipline were my keys."

Charlotte Ivenne Lomius (SMK Sikuati II, 8A), a hosteller, stayed focused amid challenges, "I concentrated in class and grasped every lesson, no matter the difficulties."

Ruth Nathalie Juining (SMK Sikuati, 7A), inspired by her teacher parents, aims to follow suit, "They motivated me to excel; I want to teach subjects I'm passionate about."

The incentives motivate further studies and community contributions.
