KOTA KINABALU: Maxim E-hailing Malaysia is strengthening its commitment to building a fully legal and transparent e-hailing industry across Sabah and Sarawak, with more than half of its operational expenditure dedicated to driver legalisation and compliance initiatives.

As part of this effort, the company has introduced a range of measures aimed at reducing the financial and administrative barriers faced by driver-partners seeking to enter the regulated e-hailing sector.

A key focus is support for obtaining the Public Service Vehicle (PSV) licence.

Through financial assistance and guidance, Maxim helps drivers manage the costs associated with certification, enabling more individuals across Borneo to participate legally in the expanding gig economy.

The company has also invested in assisting drivers with securing their E-Hailing Vehicle Permit (EVP).

To streamline the process, Maxim has established a dedicated internal support system to guide applicants through documentation and procedures, reducing the average legalisation timeframe to just two to three days.

“When you know your work is properly supported, you feel more confident and take your responsibilities more seriously,” said Gilang, a full-time Maxim driver in Sabah.

These ongoing efforts have contributed to a steady rise in new driver registrations across Sabah and Sarawak, as more East Malaysians opt to earn income through compliant e-hailing services.

In March alone, new driver sign-ups, including in Borneo, rose by 28 per cent compared with February.

Maxim E-hailing Malaysia Director Mohd Hazwan Musley said the company remains focused on creating sustainable income opportunities while ensuring full adherence to Malaysian transport regulations.

“At Maxim, we are committed to building a safe, transparent and fully legal e-hailing ecosystem across Malaysia, including Sabah and Sarawak. We continue to invest in driver legalisation, including PSV support, EVP application assistance, safety training and awareness initiatives to help drivers enter the industry and operate in full compliance with regulations."

“Our focus is not only on improving mobility services, but also on creating sustainable earning opportunities for local communities while maintaining high standards of safety and service quality,” he said.

The company also conducts continuous monitoring of driver compliance, including the validity of licences and permits, to ensure all active driver-partners meet regulatory requirements.

Maxim’s investments in legalisation and compliance form part of its broader commitment to enhancing transparency, strengthening the e-hailing sector, and supporting the growth of legitimate employment opportunities within Borneo’s evolving gig economy.
