MEDC approves RM650,000 to upgrade three Village Markets in Lasou region - Ewon

KOTA BELUD: The Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (MEDC) has approved an allocation of RM650,000 for the upgrading of three Rural Markets in Lasou region, here.
Its Minister, Datuk Ewon Benedick said, out of that amount, RM250,000 is allocated for the upgrading of Kg.Takulung Market and RM200,000 each for Lompios Market and Lasou Market.
"The upgrading of these community markets is important to provide comfort to small-scale entrepreneurs in the villages to market their agricultural products and further enhance the economy of rural residents," he said.
He said this when delivering his speech at the launching of the Cooperative Community Cultivation Programme in conjunction with the Farmers Entrepreneur Day of Eight Villages (Kg. Lasou Lama, Kg. Takulung, Kg. Lasou Minunsud, Kg. Lasou Podi, Kg. Lompios, Kg. Gonok Gonti, Kg. Wani and Kg. Kebidahan), Mukim Lasou Kadamaian, here, today.
Ewon stated that a total of RM20 million has been allocated for the Village Market Project in Sabah and Sarawak starting this year, with an initial phase of RM7 million earmarked to upgrade 38 village market sites throughout Sabah.
Regarding the programme, he expressed his gratitude to the government agencies involved in the success of the programme, namely the Malaysian Cooperative Commission (SKM), the Malaysian Cooperative Institute (IKMA), EPF, SOCSO, and the Health Department.
"I hope that the briefings from these agencies have provided clarification on the information about the programmes and initiatives implemented by each of these agencies," he said.
Ewon, who is also the State Assemblyman (ADUN) for Kadamaian, encouraged the farming community in Mukim Lasou to establish cooperatives to manage entrepreneurial activities and the economy of the farmers in the village.
"Congratulations to the Lompios Village Market Cooperative Kota Belud Berhad for receiving their cooperative registration certificate today," he said.
During the event, Ewon also allocated RM13,000 from the Kadamaian Assemblyman 's Touch of Love fund to Kampung Lasou to purchase 200 chairs and install an electricity meter in the village hall built through the efforts of the Kadamaian ADUN Service Center several years ago.
Additionally, a contribution of RM2,000 was given to the Dance and Cultural Club and sponsored the registration of 100 youths in this district to open EPF accounts and a donation of RM1,000 for tomorrow's Maal Hijrah celebration.
Ewon also distributed food baskets to 50 recipients through the SKM CSR Programme.
