KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC), in collaboration with Tourism Selangor, is currently hosting the second edition of the Malaysia Healthcare Expo (MHX) Makassar 2025, taking place from 19th to 22nd June. This year's expo highlights Malaysia's dedication to providing world-class medical care alongside exceptional tourism experiences for Indonesian patients, particularly those from Sulawesi.
Held at the LG Atrium, Transquare, Trans Studio Makassar, the event brings together more than 15 leading private hospitals from Malaysia and features a dedicated pavilion showcasing Tourism Selangor.
"To return to my hometown of Makassar for the second edition of this healthcare expo is truly meaningful," said Rahmatullah Baragau, Head of Indonesia Market, Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council. "The last time we were here was in 2023, and to be back again reflects the strong and growing relationship between Malaysia Healthcare and the people of Makassar. This initiative is more than just a showcase of Malaysia's medical excellence, rather, it is a celebration of trust, shared values, and our unwavering commitment to supporting the health journeys of our Indonesian brothers and sisters."
Malaysia remains a preferred destination for Indonesians seeking medical expertise across key specialties such as Cardiology, Oncology, Orthopaedics, Fertility, and comprehensive health screenings. The steady rise in patient arrivals from Makassar and other Indonesian regions underscores the strong trust and satisfaction in Malaysia’s healthcare system.
Tourism Selangor's participation in MHX Makassar 2025 significantly enhances the experience by showcasing the state's diverse and vibrant tourism offerings, which beautifully complement Malaysia’s renowned healthcare services. From wellness retreats and ecotourism experiences to cultural heritage trails and family-friendly attractions, Selangor presents a compelling destination for international patients seeking recovery in a relaxing and enriching environment.
Dato' Ng Suee Lim, Selangor State Executive Councillor for Local Government and Tourism, shared, "Selangor is proud to be a key player in Malaysia's healthcare tourism landscape, with 42 internationally accredited hospitals that offer world-class yet affordable treatment options. We see great potential in strengthening our ties with Indonesia, particularly Makassar."
He added that through Tourism Selangor's 'Liburan Sehat Ya, Di Selangor Aja' campaign, curated packages will be introduced seamlessly combining quality medical care with post-treatment recovery experiences. "This initiative offers Indonesian travellers a holistic journey of healing and leisure, making Selangor a destination where health and rejuvenation go hand in hand," he said.
This collaboration not only promotes Tourism Selangor as a preferred recovery destination but also reinforces the concept of a holistic healthcare journey, where high-quality medical treatment is seamlessly paired with travel and leisure experiences. Such synergy supports MHTC's mission to position Malaysia as the leading global destination for healthcare travel, especially among Indonesian visitors who value both clinical excellence and cultural familiarity.
Hospitals showcased under MHTC include Institut Jantung Negara (IJN), Island Hospital, Mahkota Medical Centre, Gleneagles Hospital Penang, Gleneagles Hospital Kuala Lumpur, Prince Court Medical Centre, Sunway Medical Centre, Sunway Medical Centre Penang, Thomson Hospital Kota Damansara, Cardiac Vascular Sentral Kuala Lumpur (CVSKL), KPJ Healthcare, MSU Medical Centre and Pusat Rehabilitasi Perkeso, while among the hospitals featured under Tourism Selangor are Subang Jaya Medical Centre, Avisena Specialist Hospital, Alpha IVF & Women's Specialists, and KPJ Damansara Specialist Hospital.
Malaysia's healthcare system is underpinned by four foundational pillars, namely Health, Clinical Excellence, Tourism, and Patient Experience, along with five core brand strengths: renowned medical professionals, modern hospital facilities, advanced infrastructure, proven clinical outcomes, and the celebrated Malaysian hospitality.
Additionally, as Malaysia moves towards being a Global Halal Hub for healthcare, the system caters to the needs of Muslim patients with services aligned to Islamic values, including religious inclusivity, halal food options, and cultural familiarity.
Throughout the four-day expo, media and visitors are learning more about Malaysia's healthcare offerings, success stories, and medical advancements. Participating hospitals are showcasing packages tailored to a variety of medical needs and budget preferences, enabling Indonesian families to make informed and confident health decisions.
The MHX Makassar 2025 event forms part of MHTC's broader mission to strengthen regional healthcare collaboration and contribute to a healthier, more connected future for all.
