KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) 2025 is progressing strongly into its third day, with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim attending the Official Opening Ceremony today at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC).
Organised by the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), MIHAS 2025 is running from 17 to 20 September at MITEC, Kuala Lumpur. Under the theme “Pinnacle of Halal Excellence,” this 21st edition continues to reinforce Malaysia’s reputation as a global leader in the Halal economy.
The Opening Ceremony, held alongside the launch of the Global Halal Summit, follows two days of vigorous activity at MIHAS 2025. Early results from the flagship International Sourcing Programme (INSP) indicate the event is well on course to meet its RM4.5 billion sales target.
INSP MIHAS 2025, a key pillar of the event, has facilitated over 4,000 business meetings between 600 Malaysian sellers and 300 international buyers, including leading retailers and hypermarkets with combined annual revenues exceeding RM1.5 trillion. The programme, which also includes a virtual component running until 5 November 2025, has already generated substantial sales and is expected to surpass last year’s achievement of RM2.52 billion, thereby strengthening Malaysia’s trade relationships across ASEAN, the GCC, Europe, Africa, and the Americas.
On the second day, emphasis was placed on the Knowledge Hub, a platform featuring 23 carefully curated sessions with 76 global industry experts, along with two webinars focusing on supply chain traceability and e-commerce, equipping businesses with digital tools for international market expansion. The Knowledge Hub offers continuous access to market intelligence, regulatory updates, actionable analytics, and direct engagement with premium buyers through prelude sessions, expert webinars, and panel discussions.
Senator Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI), stated, “Malaysia is repositioning halal as a driver of responsible innovation to promote sustainable and inclusive economic growth. By expanding halal trade, Malaysia is not only capturing value from a rapidly growing global sector but also hedging against volatility in traditional commodities, while strengthening our role as a bridge between the Muslim world and international markets. Our RM62 billion halal industry, supported by events like MIHAS, is a forward-looking economic strategy that enhances resilience, boosts soft power, and opens new pathways to prosperity for Malaysians.”
MATRADE’s Chairman, Dato’ Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican, added: “MIHAS continues to be a catalyst for Malaysia’s leadership in the Halal sector. The strong performance of INSP this year highlights the increasing global demand for Malaysian Halal products and services. Through MIHAS and our digital platforms, we are enabling Malaysian exporters to connect with high-value international buyers and unlock new opportunities.”
Looking forward, MIHAS plans to expand its global footprint with MIHAS@Shanghai, scheduled for 5 to 11 November 2025 in conjunction with the China International Import Expo. Furthermore, preparations are underway to bring the MIHAS brand to Europe in 2026. As one of the most promising and strategically significant halal markets worldwide, this expansion will offer Malaysian exporters direct access to high-value opportunities across multiple sectors and a rapidly growing halal consumer base.
MIHAS 2025 features 14 dedicated industry clusters covering halal food, pharmaceuticals, Islamic finance, modest fashion, green technology, e-commerce, and Muslim-friendly tourism. It also hosts knowledge-sharing platforms such as the Global Halal Summit, Halal Sector Forum, and the Halal Certification Body Convention. This year’s edition expects to attract 45,000 visitors, with 2,400 booths and participation from exhibitors and buyers representing 80 countries.
Since its inception in 2004, MIHAS has generated nearly RM30 billion in export sales and welcomed over half a million business visitors from around the world. With the impressive performance of INSP 2025 and the upcoming expansion into Europe, MIHAS continues to forge new frontiers, positioning Malaysia at the heart of the global Halal economy.
