KOTA KINABALU: The Ministry of Industry Development, Entrepreneurship and Transport Sabah (MINDET) will continue to strengthen its collaboration with regional organisations such as the Association of JCI Senators in The South East Asian Nations (ASEAN JCI) and other non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in efforts to promote Sabah as a competitive investment destination.

Deputy Chief Minister III and Minister of Industry, Entrepreneurship and Transport, Datuk Ewon Benedick, stated that strategic partnerships between the government and organisations like Junior Chamber International (JCI) are crucial in driving progress and the growth of the economy, trade, and business within the state.

“The state government through MINDET is committed to supporting the development of entrepreneurs and young leaders, including JCI members, through various initiatives such as access to financing, entrepreneurial training, capacity-building programmes, and strategic networks with industry players and investors,” he said.

He made these remarks while officiating at the ASEAN 1st Board of Directors Meeting & Installation 2026, held at a prominent hotel here yesterday evening.

Ewon added that his ministry will continue to expand market access, including assisting local entrepreneurs to penetrate international markets, while strengthening logistics systems and supply chains to support business growth in Sabah.

“MINDET will keep intensifying efforts to promote Sabah as a hub for investment, industry, and commerce,” he said.

He emphasised that close collaboration between the government and NGOs can produce more credible leaders and competitive entrepreneurs capable of contributing to economic development and societal well-being.

“This partnership not only strengthens ties between organisations but also opens up more investment and business networking opportunities that benefit Sabah,” he stated.

Ewon also expressed his appreciation to the delegates from ASEAN countries present, describing their commitment as a reflection of high leadership standards and dedication within their organisations.

“Congratulations to Patricia Poh on her appointment as the first female President of JCI Senators from Sabah, and my gratitude to former President Theodore Garcia for his leadership,” he added.

Meanwhile, he expressed hope that the programme would foster closer relations, strengthen friendship networks, and enhance cooperation among JCI members at the regional level.

Ewon also welcomed all delegates to Sabah and encouraged them to explore the investment potential and business opportunities available in the state.
