MOTAC Working on Measures to Support Tourism Industry Amid Global Pressures

KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) is stepping up efforts to address challenges facing Malaysia’s tourism sector during this ongoing global uncertainties.


Its Minister, Datuk Tiong King Sing, said the Ministry is actively engaging with the Ministry of Finance Malaysia to assess and refine suitable measures to help stabilise the industry.


He added that comprehensive engagement sessions with industry stakeholders, including tourism transport operators and related service providers, will be conducted to gather direct feedback and better understand the pressures faced by the sector, such as rising costs, operational challenges and potential losses.


According to Tiong, the Finance Ministry has expressed support for the ongoing efforts and will evaluate the overall impact based on data submitted by industry players to enable more targeted solutions.


He urged industry participants to remain responsible and avoid taking advantage of the situation by raising prices or passing on excessive costs, warning that such actions could place further strain on consumers and disrupt market stability.


Tiong also called for unity in supporting the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, stressing that cooperation is essential in navigating external challenges and sustaining economic resilience.


He said the Government would continue to prioritise public well-being and industry stability, with measures to be introduced progressively following thorough evaluation to ensure sustainable economic growth.
