KENINGAU: A total of 25 young people from around the district took part in a three-day Basic Mural Art Course organised by the Sabah Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS), held from 11 to 13 June 2025 at Taman Bandukan Riverside Resort.

This introductory training programme aimed to expose youth to mural art as a form of creative skill with the potential to develop into a viable career and income source.

Throughout the course, participants received both theoretical instruction and hands-on training covering the basics of drawing, paint application techniques, and direct mural creation.

The certificate presentation ceremony was officiated by the Honorary Advisor of the Keningau Youth Club, Rafie Robert. Also present was Erzan Abdullah, Assistant Youth and Sports Officer (Women’s Division), Keningau.

In his speech, Rafie encouraged participants to build upon the knowledge gained and explore the arts more seriously and professionally.

"Mural art is not merely decorative; it can serve as a powerful medium for shaping community identity and, when commercialised, can also provide a source of income," he said.

He emphasised that such initiatives offer rural youth a platform to showcase their talent in visual arts, thereby strengthening the local creative economy.

"This course is part of the Sabah Ministry of Youth and Sports' initiative to empower young people by equipping them with artistic and creative skills relevant to current market needs," he added.
