KOTA KINABALU: A new Covid-19 cluster has been detected in Lahad Datu which has a cumulative total of 17 cases, said Local Government and Housing Datuk Masidi Manjun.
The Belacon cluster recorded nine new cases today and its index case was a 22-year-old male who tested positive through symptomatic screening on March 31.
"A total of 195 close contacts and churchgoers have been screened following the detection where 16 of them tested positive, 137 tested negative and the rest are still awaiting results.
"The index case was believed to have contracted the virus from a 54-year-old foreigner who is also a church staff," Masidi mentioned in his press statement today.
According to him, the 54-year-old from Tawau has exhibited symptoms since March 25 and then tested positive through close contact screening on April 4.
"All of the cluster's positive cases have been referred to Lahad Datu Hospital while the rest were instructed to undergo quarantine at the district's PPR Sri Sepagaya quarantine centre," he added.
