New Covid-19 cluster detected in Lahad Datu

KOTA KINABALU: A new Covid-19 cluster has emerged in Lahad Datu known as the Cenderawasih cluster involving a workplace infection.

Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun said that the index case is 39-year-old safety personnel who tested positive on August 11 after experiencing symptoms since August 7.

“Active investigation and close contact screening have detected seven more positive cases, bringing the cumulative total to eight cases including one new case today.

“While 27 out of 35 close contacts screened are still waiting for results,” he said in a statement today.

According to Masidi, the cause of the infection is still under investigation, however, based on early investigation, the index case and some of the close contacts have previously engaged in a sports activity.
