New Fire and Rescue Station ready to provide services to people

PENAMPANG: The new Putatan Fire and Rescue Station is ready to provide swift and efficient firefighting and Rescue Services to the people in this region.
Previously, any incidents in this area were attended to by fire and rescue stations located nearby such as Kota Kinabalu, Penampang, and Lintas, which are on average more than 12 kilometres away from Putatan.
With the presence of the fire station in Putatan, response times will be shorter, and teams can arrive swiftly at the scene to save lives and property of the residents in the surrounding area.
The Minister of Housing and Local Government, Nga Kor Ming, mentioned that in the near future, with the establishment and operation of new fire stations, the response time of the fire department can be significantly enhanced.
Speaking during the launching ceremony of the Fire and Rescue Establishment today he said the Fire and Rescue Station was constructed on a 1.756 acres with a total cost of RM 11.72 million.
"It is a Category C fire station equipped with vehicle bays, administrative offices, logistics storage, pump house, tower, parade ground, and other facilities."
According to him, it also includes a two-story quarters building consisting of 1 unit of Class E with 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms, and 3 units of Class F with 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
He said to further enhance firefighting and rescue services in Sabah, several new projects and extensions for the construction of fire stations have been approved and are currently being implemented this year in Telupid, Lahad Datu, Beaufort, Pitas, Nabawan, and Merotai.
He shared that the year 2024, the Unity Government has allocated a total of RM53.8 million for new physical construction projects, including new construction, upgrades, and maintenance of firefighting facilities including stations and quarters.
Additionally, an allocation of RM64.8 million has been approved for the implementation of new physical equipment projects for the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) for the year 2024 for the acquisition and maintenance of firefighting vehicles and equipment.
This included refurbishing 30 units of Fire Rescue Tender (FRT), replacement of 10 fire engines, maintenance of Helicopter and Aircraft Refuelling as well as maintenance of Firefighting Vehicles.
