New Year celebration unite NGOs and Churches

KOTA KINABALU: The Society of Hope Sabah hosted a Chinese New Year Christian Fellowship gathering for various churches and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) united in a common mission with the Society’s objectives. The event took place at the private residence of its founder, Datuk Seri Christina Liew, in Sri Cocos on Friday.
In her welcoming speech, the Society’s President, Josephine Hadikusumo, highlighted the importance of recognising the commendable work undertaken by churches for the benefit of local communities.
“We, the Society of Hope Sabah, plan to continue our outreach programmes for school children in rural areas later this year,” she stated.

Approximately two hundred guests enjoyed a lavish lunch and were entertained by a lion dance troupe from the Qun Sheng Lion Dance Association.
Among those present were Tanjung Aru Assemblyman Datuk Junz Wong, Api-Api Assemblyman Loi Kok Liang, Bishop Kenneth Thien of the Anglican Diocese of Sabah, Bishop Dr Sintoh Yusop of Sidang Injil Borneo (SIB), Archdeacon Moses Chin of Christ Church Likas, Datuk Clement Yeh, Chairman of Sabah Publishing House, Datin Foo Choon Pang, wife of the Chairman of Asia Times, Datuk Frankie Liew, President of the Sabah China Chamber of Commerce, Datuk Tan Kok Liang, Secretary-General of the Malaysian Tourism Federation, Datuk Eliza Goh, Honorary Adviser to the Kian Kok Board of Governors, and former Mothers-General Grace Deosing and Frances Mani of the Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Conception (FSIC) from Stella Maris Convent.
Representatives from the Catholic Archdiocese of Kota Kinabalu, SDA Mission of North Sabah, Glory Christian Centre, KK Baptist Church, and Bethel Church of Sabah (BCS) also attended the gathering.
