PUTATAN: Registered associations or non-governmental organisations (NGOs) are encouraged to become the driving force behind the state government’s aspirations to ensure that grassroots communities continue to receive support, especially during the upcoming festive season.

Putatan Member of Parliament, Datuk Ir Shahelmey Yahya, said this initiative aims to uphold the welfare of those in need and alleviate their burdens, particularly in the Putatan district.

He explained that, in conjunction with the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations, the implementation of corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes by NGOs is highly encouraged.

"Of course, as we joyfully welcome the month of Syawal this week, let us not forget the poor, the asnaf, and those less fortunate.

"Although the government has carried out numerous aid and welfare activities, NGOs also play an important role in executing their CSR initiatives.

"For us in Putatan, CSR programmes are strongly encouraged for any NGO willing to extend help," he stated.

He made these remarks after attending a food basket aid handover organised by the Sabah Women’s Empowerment Association (PWPS) at the Mini Hall, Kg Muhibbah, here, on Monday.

Also present were PWPS Chairperson, Salma Said; Senior Special Officer of Putatan Parliament, Sufian Matin; Administration and Operations Special Officer of Putatan Parliament, Mahadzir Abd Majid; and Community Development Leader (PPM) of Tanjung Keramat, Latip Jiar.

Meanwhile, during the event, Shahelmey also handed over food baskets to 34 recipients from the local asnaf community in Putatan.

"As I have mentioned, programmes like this are an important part of the assistance initiatives delivered by various parties, including PWPS NGOs.

"Therefore, we hope that these efforts can be continued regularly, as we perform acts of kindness to help those in need during this blessed month," he added.
