NO MORE DELAY IN PARLIAMENT RECONVENING – RAFIDAH AZIZ

Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz

29 June 2021

Alhamdulillah, the decision has been made to reconvene Parliament as soon as possible, and it surely needs to be done immediately to enable the accreditation of the existing rules of provisions of laws.

This does not mean the date should be decided only when the Prime Minister or any politicians feel convenient or prepared, and no excuses should be given that could delay the Parliament sitting.

The rakyat does not want to hear any excuses or expectations anymore.

The rakyats who are authoritative and know the laws and regulations related to the Parliament Session should be able to calculate accurately the earliest date for Parliament to convene.

This is not a “wait-and-see”. The laws cannot be neglected just because the Prime Minister is “not ready”.

After all, the physical space of the Parliament for debating is already equipped with plastic restrictions, and the YBs should wear face-covering and not wander around the Parliament building.

Certainly, our YBs can be disciplined when it comes to complying with all the existing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). People will be watching every move and demeanour!

Among the issues that need to be discussed by the Parliament Members are:

- The hundreds and thousands of millions that have been spent and will be spent as well as the effect.

- Proposal to increase the national ceiling limit – What are the implications?

- The National Recovery Plan from the aspects of economic, social, health, education as well as the national resilience in the context of competition and competency in facing market challenges.

These all must be simultaneous with continued efforts to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic, vaccinations and other appropriate measures. The plan is not just a “Covid Recovery Plan”!

The rakyats are waiting for the Government to act with integrity, trust, honesty and with full responsibility and accountability.

Many people are facing various problems, and so far, the measures that have been taken are not effective as we hope for because they are not comprehensive, the effectiveness of each package was not analysed, and no enlightenment was provided about the exit strategy to restore the country in the long run after the Covid-19 pandemic.

InsyaAllah, it can be controlled.

So don’t delay anymore. Start the process of enabling parliamentary sessions as soon as possible.

Do not wait until the state and the people reach the brink of breaking down to do what needs to be done.

The rakyat needs an efficient and clean national administration that really understands them!

Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz
