KOTA KINABALU: PKR Deputy President Nurul Izzah Anwar has described the tragic passing of Zara, a child whose case has captured national attention, as a moment that has united Malaysians across boundaries and differences.
In a heartfelt statement issued on Tuesday, Nurul Izzah recounted her recent visit to Kota Kinabalu, where she met with Zara’s mother two weeks after flying in from Kuala Lumpur. At the time, the grieving mother was not ready to receive visitors, but Nurul Izzah expressed gratitude for the opportunity to finally offer her condolences in person.
“As a mother myself, I truly feel the sorrow carried by Zara’s mother,” she said. “All she ever wanted was to see Zara grow up like any other child, healthy, happy, and full of life.”
Describing Zara as a child with a gentle nature and strong moral values, Nurul Izzah said the young girl had become a symbol for many across the nation.
“Zara was like a child to all of us. Her passing has brought us together, reminding us of the urgent need to protect every child,” she added.
Vowing not to rest until justice is served, the PKR leader emphasised the importance of holding those responsible to account and ensuring safer environments for all children.
“We will continue to closely follow and monitor every development of this case, because every child deserves to grow up in a safe environment, free from fear and threats,” she said.
Nurul Izzah also called on Malaysians to remain vigilant and united in their efforts to protect children and prevent similar tragedies.
“This is our collective responsibility, to care, to protect, and to ensure that such a tragedy never happens again.”
She concluded her statement with a prayer for justice and for Zara’s soul to be placed among the righteous.
The case involving Zara has sparked widespread public outcry and renewed calls for systemic reforms to better safeguard children nationwide.
