SANDAKAN: Sandakan Member of Parliament (MP) Vivian Wong Shir Yee welcomed efforts to broaden the range of sporting activities at the Sandakan Sports Complex.
The newest attraction is a watersports recreation venture run by a young local couple.
Vivian said the activity is a healthy option that allows visitors to spend quality time with family and friends while getting exercise through pedal-boat rides on the lake.
She urged that visitor safety be prioritised to prevent any untoward incidents.
Speaking to the media after officiating the HR Aquasport watersports and recreation event on Tuesday, she praised the initiative by Hazuezzah Hassan and her husband, Hafiz Jakiri, who aim to revive childhood memories of popular watersport pastimes once enjoyed at Taman Hiburan Jalil Alip, Batu 14.
On the subject of the sports complex’s facilities, Vivian expressed hope that the RM11 million allocation announced earlier by former Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh for upgrading several amenities will be completed to meet current needs.
She added that a recent visit by Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Mordi Bimol should also have a positive effect on the complex’s facilities.
Vivian noted there is an urgent need for additional lighting around the complex, used widely by residents for jogging and walking. She also urged visitors to be conscientious and not to discard food containers or rubbish around the complex and lake, so the area remains clean and welcoming.
