KOTA KINABALU: Platforms such as the Sabah State Unity Action Committee (PADUNEGERI) play a crucial role in fostering harmony among Sabah’s diverse communities.

Sabah Minister of Women, Health and People’s Wellbeing, (KWKKR) Datuk Julita Majungki, highlighted this during her chairmanship of the first PADUNEGERI Sabah meeting of the year, held here on Monday.

“Platforms like PADUNEGERI enable us to discuss issues that may arise within our communities and take proactive measures to ensure that harmony and understanding continue to flourish,” she stated.

Julita emphasised that efforts to strengthen unity should not rely solely on the Department of National Unity and National Integration (JPNIN), but must involve the active participation and commitment of various stakeholders.

“The responsibility for fostering unity does not rest with a single agency alone. It must be supported by strategic partners, stakeholders, and grassroots leaders,” she added.

She explained that PADUNEGERI functions as a forum to address unity-related issues, clarify current matters at the grassroots level, and recommend initiatives to further enhance harmony within communities.

The committee comprises representatives from various government agencies, relevant departments, and stakeholders involved in unity initiatives, with JPNIN Sabah serving as the secretariat.

The minister expressed her hope that this platform would further improve coordination among agencies and bolster efforts to preserve harmony among Sabah’s diverse populations.

Also present at the meeting were KWKKR assistant minister Datuk Rina Jainal, permanent secretary Datuk Maria Chong, and JPNIN Sabah director Rina Ab Harun.
