KUALA LUMPUR: PAS' Kuantan MP Wan Razali Wan Nor has come under fire from social media users over his remark on nurses attire in Parliament on Thursday, claiming that their uniform is too tight and are not Shariah-compliant.

Netizens have taken to Twitter to express their disappointment and anger towards the MP's statement.

One twitter user highlighted the plight of nurses in Malaysia who are underpaid, overworked and under-appreciated.

“Yet this man (Wan Razali), who is paid big salaries to represent the interest of the public in the Parlimen, is scrutinizing what they are wearing. This is despicable,” he said.

Another user tweeted: “Who's complaining? Men who can't lower their gaze and start sexualising nurses who are working tirelessly to provide healthcare?"

Meanwhile, another said he doubted whether Wan Razali would be reprimanded for his comment.

“We will only get the standard ‘kecewa’ (disappointed) and ‘terkejut’ (surprised) comments from those in paper and that’s it."

A fourth user tweeted: “Before this, they were targeting airline uniforms, now it's nurses, who is next? Probably is their goal for the entire country and government to be syariah compliant."

At a parliamentary session on Thursday (June 15), Wan Razali Wan Nor raised a complaint regarding the uniforms worn by nurses, stating that they “show their body shape.”

He called for revisions to the dress code for nurses, claiming that it was too tight and not in accordance with shariah law.
