KIULU: The Acting President of Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS), Datuk Seri Dr. Joachim Gunsalam, emphasised that the primary goal of PBS in the upcoming State Election (PRN) is to ensure that the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) continues to be mandated to govern the state.
Dr. Joachim, who is also the Deputy Chief Minister II, stated that maintaining GRS as the State Government is crucial for the continuity of development and political stability in Sabah.
"We need to ensure the victory of GRS in the upcoming PRN," he said while officiating the 40th Anniversary Celebration of PBS N.15 Kiulu at Minurod Campsite, Pahu, here, the day before (13 April).
Dr. Joachim also reiterated PBS's commitment to continue advocating for the rights of the people of Sabah as enshrined in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), while urging party members to remain united and avoid internal divisions.
"Our focus now is to stay relevant after 40 years of establishment. Young people need to step up as future leaders, identify problems, and seek solutions," he said.
Commenting on political cooperation, Dr. Joachim expressed confidence in the close relationship between PBS and the Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (StarSabah), where both parties have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU).
"I am very positive about this collaboration. Almost 99 per cent of StarSabah leaders are former PBS members. Our struggles are the same. If we do not unite, we will continue to be divided and our voices will not be heard," he stated.
He added that strengthening GRS is a priority to ensure that the voices of the people of Sabah continue to be championed in both the state and federal administrations.
Dr. Joachim also expressed appreciation to the Chief of PBS Kiulu, Datuk Joniston Bangkuai, who is also the State Assemblyman for Kiulu, and the entire organising committee chaired by Aliamis Sami, who is also the Deputy Chief of PBS Kiulu, for successfully organising the celebration.
He urged all members to remain united and work harder to ensure that the Kiulu State Assembly seat remains with the party.
Also present were the Deputy President of PBS, Datuk Seri Dr. Yee Moh Chai; Vice Presidents; Joint Heads of the PBS Youth Exco; members of the Supreme Council; Division Heads; PBS Women’s Exco; and local leaders from the Kiulu State Assembly.
