MATUNGGONG: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) is committed to defending the rights of the people and continuing the development agenda in this area.

PBS Secretary‑General and Matunggong division chief Datuk Julita Majungki said the party’s strength is built on unity, member loyalty and ongoing commitment to championing the interests of local residents.

“Although now 41 years old, PBS here remains solid and continues to play an important role as part of the state government to ensure the rights and development of the people are upheld,” she said when officiating the 41st Annual General Meeting of PBS Matunggong Division at the KDCA Mini Hall, Matunggong, on Saturday.

Julita, who is also the Matunggong State Assemblywoman and Sabah Minister of Women, Health and Community Well‑being, said various development efforts have been and are being carried out, including upgrades to village roads, construction of community halls, a new bridge at Kampung Inukiran and the building of SMJ houses.

In addition, two new community halls are being built, one in Kampung Toporoi and another in Kampung Angkob, to meet local needs.

In education, Julita said almost RM80,000 has been allocated as incentives for outstanding Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) 2025 students, as part of efforts to encourage academic excellence among local children.

“Commitment to developing this area will remain a priority and will be implemented continuously through close cooperation with ministries and government agencies,” she said.

She also reported that upgrading Matunggong from a sub‑district to a full district remains a key agenda, as this is important to accelerate development and the provision of government facilities.

She said the townsite land in Matunggong is being reorganised and finalised for the development of administrative facilities such as government offices, a police station, fire station, hospital and educational institutions in the future.

Meanwhile, Julita urged all PBS members to maintain unity and a spirit of family within the party, particularly ahead of divisional elections and preparations for the 16th General Election (PRU16).

She expressed confidence that close cooperation as a component party within Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) will ensure continuity of development and political stability for the future of people in Kota Marudu and Matunggong.

At the conference, PBS Matunggong Division also tabled a motion to support Acting PBS President Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam to be elected PBS President uncontested.

The division also expressed support for PBS Information Chief Datuk Joniston Bangkuai to be elected Deputy President uncontested at the party’s elections during this year’s PBS Annual Delegate Conference.

“That motion reflects grassroots confidence and unwavering support for the party leadership in ensuring continuity of the struggle, stability and direction of PBS for the benefit of the people of Sabah,” Julita said.

Also present were PBS Vice‑President Datuk Johnny Mositun; PBS Youth Chief Datuk Dr Christopher Mandut; Matunggong PBS Deputy Division Chief Epson Kawahui; Matunggong Gagasan Rakyat Division Chief Datuk Barlus Mangabis; Matunggong Parti Cinta Sabah (PCS) Division Chief Tommy Molukis; and Matunggong Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah Division Chief Alfred Pain.
