KOTA KINABALU: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) has described the Federal Government’s decision not to appeal Sabah’s 40 per cent entitlement as a significant step forward, but cautioned that ongoing challenges to parts of the court ruling continue to raise concern among Sabahans.

PBS Information Chief Datuk Joniston Bangkuai said the public is seeking assurance that the latest development will not “derail or complicate” efforts to fulfil Sabah’s long-awaited rights.

“Sabah has waited for decades for this entitlement to be honoured. Any move that appears to reopen the issue, even partially, risks sending the wrong message and heightening public frustration,” he said in a statement.

Joniston added that the situation will test the strength of cooperation between the Federal and Sabah governments as they work to deliver the 40 per cent entitlement, which he described as crucial to strengthening the state’s development trajectory, particularly in underserved rural areas.

He urged Putrajaya to provide clarity and consistency, stressing that Sabahans need firm assurance that the implementation of the entitlement “remains on track and will not be affected by this latest development.”
