PENAMPANG: Penampang Member of Parliament Datuk Ewon Benedick has taken immediate action to provide water assistance to residents of Kampung Timpangoh Laut in Sugud following a disruption to the village’s gravity-fed water supply.

The Deputy Chief Minister III, who is also Minister of Industrial Development, Entrepreneurship and Transport, said the Penampang Parliamentary Service Centre secretariat had contacted Jetama Water to obtain a supply of drinking water, which was subsequently funded through his parliamentary allocation.

In addition, his Service Centre also coordinated with the Penampang Municipal Council for the delivery of water via tanker lorries.

“Earlier, I visited the village together with the Service Centre secretariat to distribute drinking water supplies to 13 affected households.

“I was also informed of the need to reinstall approximately five kilometres of piping to the water source, which had been destroyed in a previous fire. The village requires 70 rolls of piping and two large water tanks.

“I have agreed that the procurement and reinstallation of the pipes and tanks will be funded through my special allocation as the Member of Parliament for Penampang,” he said after participating in the water distribution programme at Kampung Timpangoh Laut, Sugud, here today.

Ewon stressed that he and the Service Centre secretariat in Penampang and Kadamaian would continue to monitor the impact of the dry spell, particularly on water supply in rural villages, while maintaining close communication with the district office to ensure appropriate follow-up action is taken.
