KOTA KINABALU: Datuk Jerry Ambuting Mohd Said, former honorary president of the Sabah chapter of Ikatan Relawan Malaysia (RELA), today lodged a police report at the Kota Kinabalu District Police Headquarters concerning the planned Gempur Rasuah Sabah 3.0 demonstrations scheduled to take place in the state capital on 4 and 5 July.

He said the report was made over concerns that the event could disturb public order, threaten community safety and spark unrest, given the organisers’ active mobilisation campaign across various social‑media platforms.

According to publicly available information, the demonstration is being organised by a coalition that includes Suara Mahasiswa UMS and the Gabungan Pilihan Raya Bersih dan Adil (Bersih) Sabah, under the Gempur Rasuah Sabah 3.0 Secretariat.

Jerry said the organisers have not only announced a two‑day rally in Kota Kinabalu but also launched a statewide roadshow to drum up public participation ahead of the demonstrations.

“I filed this police report because I am concerned that the planned programme and widespread publicity could trigger disturbances to public order and lead to undesirable situations. As citizens who value peace and stability in the state, I believe that any demands or views should be channelled through lawful and proper avenues,” he told reporters after making the report.

He also drew attention to the distribution of various videos, promotional posters, press conferences and statements related to the demonstration uploaded on platforms including Facebook, TikTok, YouTube and other social apps.

He said content about the demonstration has been widely shared across media and social channels, including Suara Mahasiswa UMS, KiniTV, Malaysiakini, TawauKini and other platforms with broad reach.

Jerry said the open call targeting students, youth and Generation Z to join street demonstrations in Kota Kinabalu should be taken seriously by the authorities.

“I am worried that persistent calls like this could influence young people to join street protests without considering the possible safety, public‑order and legal implications. If not properly managed, the situation could cause traffic disruption, affect the community’s economic and social activities and provoke confrontations between opposing groups.”

He added that the police report also referred to several social‑media posts containing provocative language and statements likely to inflame tensions within the community.

Consequently, Jerry urged police to conduct a comprehensive investigation into all parties involved in organising the demonstration, including instigators, coordinators, sponsors, funders and any individuals involved directly or indirectly.

He also asked authorities to scrutinise the event’s funding sources, including sales of official T‑shirts reportedly used to finance logistics, the roadshow and mobilisation efforts.

“I leave it entirely to the police to carry out investigations in accordance with the law. What matters is that we ensure the peace, harmony and stability of Sabah are preserved and prevent any incidents that could undermine public order,” he said.
