PENAMPANG: Saying that one wants to prosper a region through entrepreneurship and tourism may seem like mere rhetoric to some, but for Marcellus Tambud, a community leader in the Limbahau region, this notion is deeply ingrained in his beliefs.
From Kg Punson Kinarut, Marcellus staunchly advocates for the prosperity of the community, particularly for those blessed with picturesque sites ripe for development and promotion. While many individuals currently leverage the natural environment in the Limbahau constituency, there remains untapped potential for further tourism growth.Â
He envisions a future where innovative initiatives and diverse attractions enhance the region's appeal, offering a wealth of opportunities for economic advancement and sustainable development.
He mentioned that there are tourist spots such as the one at Mandalipau. Mandalipau White Water View’s picturesque landscape offers a serene escape into the beauty of nature.
The tranquil flow of the river, coupled with the invigorating atmosphere, creates an idyllic setting for visitors. The gushing waters provide a sense of rejuvenation, making it a favored destination for many. Whether indulging in a leisurely picnic or simply basking in the soothing waters, Mandalipau promises a delightful retreat for all who visit.
The river at Kg. Bisuang presents a captivating scene, with its pristine waters cascading over a bed of polished stones, creating a mesmerizing sight for nature enthusiasts and photographers alike.
In Mondikot, the Mondikot Deer Camp offers an adventurous retreat suitable for individuals of all ages, allowing visitors to fully immerse themselves in the natural splendor of the surroundings.
Additionally, Bolotikon features a renowned campsite, providing a popular escape for those seeking respite from their daily routines.
Across the Limbahau constituency, a plethora of attractions can potentially attract holidaymakers and individuals yearning for a reprieve from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, making it a favoured destination for relaxation and rejuvenation.
All these are available for people of all ages, Marcellus said but other beautiful spots can be developed, which can make this region, be a potential hub for tourism in this part of the State.
The river is of course the main attraction but there are also the cultural and traditional aspects of that area that can be developed further, he said, adding that a Tamu, or traditional rural market, serves as a hub for local communities to showcase and sell their agricultural produce, handicrafts, and various goods to visitors en-route to nearby tourism destinations.
These markets can be strategically located in areas that are easily accessible to villagers, encouraging active participation from the local community. By providing a platform for artisans and farmers to display their wares, a Tamu not only supports the local economy but also offers visitors a unique opportunity to experience the rich cultural heritage and craftsmanship of the region.
The bustling atmosphere of a Tamu creates a dynamic exchange of goods and traditions, enriching the overall tourism experience for all involved.
There are homestays in Limbahau, too and that augers well for tourism in that area. Accommodation is not just a place for tourists to rest; it is a vital component that enhances the rural tourism experience, supports local economies, promotes sustainability, and fosters community development.
Marcellus believes that infrastructure improvement is an ongoing development where there should be better road access, electricity supply, and internet connectivity and tourism spots should have good amenities such as changing rooms and clean toilets.
To better prosper the tourism players in that region, he said, he would suggest that they form a cooperative as it plays an important role in supporting tourism entrepreneurs by providing a platform for collaboration, resource-sharing, and collective decision-making.
By joining forces through cooperatives, tourism entrepreneurs can pool their resources, access funding opportunities, and benefit from economies of scale. This enables them to enhance their competitiveness, expand their reach, and offer a wider range of services to tourists.
Marcellus who is United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (UPKO) Vice chief for Papar said after they form a cooperative, they can approach agencies under the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperative (MEDC) to acquire loans and assistance to improve and expand their businesses.
MEDC Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick has always encouraged entrepreneurs to join or form cooperatives to enable them to access funds and loans available for cooperatives.
Limbahau constituency comprises Dambai, Labak, Kaiduan, Gana, Ovai, Surati, Limbahau, Biau, and Rampazan.
