Resolving two out of three matters in Originating Summons is an achievement

29 September 2023

PENAMPANG: Achieving the resolution of two out of three matters raised in the Originating Summons is a significant accomplishment.

Datuk Ewon Benedick, the President of the United Kinabalu Progressive Organisation (UPKO), stated that this achievement not only strengthens the struggle of Pakatan Harapan (PH) Sabah, that brought the matter to court, but also adds weight to their cause.

Ewon, who also serves as the Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives, highlighted that the actions of PH Sabah representatives successfully brought attention to these matters in the Cabinet and Cabinet committees, an unprecedented feat.

"In today's Supreme Council meeting, the party unanimously agreed to the withdrawal of the Initiator's Suit filed by Sabah PH People's Representatives, as two of the matters raised in the Originating Summons have been resolved by the Federal Government. However, the matter concerning the 40% entitlement or refund will be given until July 2024 for finalisation," Ewon explained.

He further stated that they are in the process of determining what constitutes the 40% of Sabah's revenue entitlement.

Additionally, they will explore other avenues of study, such as evaluating the developmental projects carried out during the specified period.

Expressing gratitude, Ewon conveyed the party's appreciation to the Court for allowing Sabah PH People's Representatives the freedom to re-file the Originating Summons as plaintiffs if the matter is not resolved within the designated time frame.

The press conference was held after the UPKO Supreme Council meeting at the party's headquarters in Penampang.

Ewon emphasise the importance of the party's united stand in recognising the progress made in the Originating Summons.

He highlighted that the resolution of these matters demonstrates the party's commitment to pursuing justice and protecting the rights and interests of the people of Sabah.

"We are proud of the achievements we have made thus far. It is a testament to our dedication and determination to fight for the rights of Sabahans. We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that the remaining matter concerning the 40% entitlement or refund is addressed effectively and in a timely manner," Ewon stated.

"The UPKO Supreme Council has entrusted me with the responsibility of advocating for the interests of our party and the people we serve. I will not waver in my commitment to bringing their concerns to the forefront and working towards their resolution," Ewon affirmed.
