KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Fest 2025 was officially launched on Saturday evening at Jalan Jati–Gaya Street with a vibrant cultural showcase featuring music and dances from the five divisions of Sabah – West Coast, Kudat, Sandakan, Tawau, and the Interior.
Officiating the launch, State Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister, Datuk Seri Panglima Christina Liew, said the annual event celebrates Sabah’s rich cultural heritage while promoting unity and diversity.
Running for a month from 30 August to 30 September, the festival coincides with the country’s patriotic season, covering National Day, Sabah Day, and Malaysia Day. This year’s theme is “Unity in Diversity: Culture Unites Us.”
“The festival highlights our arts, traditions and performances, reminding us that culture is the bond that ties us all together,” Liew said.
The programme will include a Unity Fun Run and Walk on 6 September that will pass several iconic places of worship, followed by a Mini Carnival at Imago Mall on 6–7 September featuring cultural games and interactive activities. A Grand Extravaganza at Oceanus Boardwalk on 27–28 September will showcase vibrant dances from across Sabah, while cultural performances will also take place at the Gaya Street Sunday Market, Kota Kinabalu International Airport, and Suria Sabah Mall throughout the month.
Liew stressed that Sabah Fest is more than just a cultural event. “It is about preserving our heritage, empowering our communities, and inviting the world to experience the unique spirit of Sabah. We are proud to present this year’s festival with the support of our valued partners,” she added.
