SABAH REGISTERS 163 NEW COVID-19 CASES, TWO DEATHS

17 April 2021 By Wartawan Nabalu News KOTA KINABALU: Sabah today registered a total of 163 new Covid-19 cases, an increase of 20 cases compared to yesterday. The latest addition pushes the cumulative total of statewide infections to 56,673. Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun said two more deaths were also reported with one each in Kota Kinabalu and Tawau. "Most of the new cases stem from new and existing clusters where 70 individuals found positive for the virus, 66 from close contact screening, 18 from symptomatic screening and the rest from other categories," he said in a statement today. Tawau recorded the highest number of new cases with 95, followed by Lahad Datu (25), Sandakan (13), Kota Kinabalu (seven), Putatan (six), Kalabakan (five), Tuaran (four), Kinabatangan (three), and one case each reported in Keningau, Papar, Nabawan, Semporna and Beaufort. Thirteen other districts did not report any new case, namely Kunak, Penampang, Kudat, Ranau, Sipitang, Pitas, Tambunan, Tenom, Kota Marudu, Beluran, Telupid, Kuala Penyu and Tongod. "A total 90 patients have recovered and were discharged, bringing the cumulative total of recoveries in Sabah to 55,084. "Nine hundred and twenty patients are still receiving treatment with 287 at the hospitals and 633 in quarantine centres," said Masidi. He added that 52 patients are being treated in the intensive care unit (ICU) with 23 of them ventilated.
