Sabah Speaker Receives Courtesy Call from China’s Consul General

KOTA KINABALU: The Speaker of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly, Datuk Seri Panglima Kadzim M. Yahya, received a courtesy call from the Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Kota Kinabalu, Dr Zhu Xinglong, at his office in the State Legislative Assembly Building, Teluk Likas yesterday.
Welcoming the visit, Kadzim expressed his appreciation and reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to strengthening international friendship and cooperation.
The meeting featured substantive discussions on legislative systems, with particular focus on the structural and functional differences between China’s and Sabah’s respective frameworks.
Both sides noted that while each system is shaped by its distinct political context and governance priorities, they share a common commitment to effective governance and socio-economic development.
The exchange provided valuable comparative insights into legislative practices and underscored the importance of institutional understanding in enhancing international engagement.
Dr Zhu also highlighted growing interest among Chinese investors in exploring opportunities in Sabah, reflecting confidence in the state’s economic potential and its appeal as an emerging investment destination.
In addition to legislative matters, discussions briefly touched on potential investments in key sectors such as infrastructure, agriculture and tourism. Sabah’s strategic location and rich resource base were identified as key strengths, supported by ongoing efforts to improve the state’s regulatory and investment environment.
