PENAMPANG: The Sarayo community‑based tourism product in Kampung Tampasak has emerged as a new attraction in the district, further strengthening the potential of community and nature‑based tourism in Sabah.
Deputy Chief Minister III and Sabah Minister for Industrial Development, Entrepreneurship and Transport, Datuk Ewon Benedick, said the development of the Sopuk Recreation Park and Sarayo Tourism represents a genuine community initiative to generate income through the village’s unique natural environment.
“This community tourism product is one of Penampang’s newest attractions and requires continued effort and support from various parties to ensure its sustainability."

“I congratulate the villagers for coming together to develop this recreation park and for striving to create income through nature‑based products,” he said.
He made the remarks when officiating the Sopuk Recreation Park and Sarayo Tourism at Kampung Tampasak, a project undertaken jointly by the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) and Koperasi Tampasak Penampang Berhad (KoTaPB).
In support of the initiative, Ewon also announced a grant of RM20,000 to assist the cooperative’s entrepreneurial activities, as well as another RM100,000 for the construction of a new road to the village’s housing area.

The Sopuk Recreation Park and Sarayo Tourism offers a laid‑back, nature‑oriented experience set amidst lush forest and a clear river.
Facilities include transport to the jetty for river cruises and village‑style accommodation through the “sulap stay” concept.
Koperasi Tampasak Penampang Berhad, established several years ago, is a community cooperative that has played a key role in developing river‑based and recreational tourism in the village.

The destination is suitable for family visits, groups of friends or organisations seeking the tranquillity of village life and the beauty of natural surroundings, and it is easily accessible by road.
Also present at the event were Moyog State Assemblyman Datuk Donald Peter Mojuntin and the Director of the Cooperative Commission of Malaysia (SKM) Sabah, Awang Ruslli Mohammad.
