KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah State Training Team received a contribution of RM10,000 from Datuk Ewon Benedick, the Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives, and Yayasan Bank Rakyat to go towards the National King Scout Assessment Course to be held in Sabah in July.

Towards this end, leadership courses and training should be extensively and consistently organised for all leaders in our country said Sabah State Training Commissioner and Chairman of the Council, Makrin Hj Sudi, adding that this initiative directly contributes to the promotion of Lifelong Learning (PSH), ensuring that our leaders not only acquire certifications but also develop high-level skills and comprehensive knowledge in effective communication.

Recently, Sabah State Training Team of the Sabah Branch of the Malaysian Scout Association, gathered 300 Scout leaders who hold the Wood Badge and prospective holders of the Wood Badge 2 beads gathered at the Gilwell Reunion and Charity Dinner for the Sabah State Training Team 2024 at the Raia Hotel in Kota Kinabalu.

Makrin said that the event aims to bring together all Scout leaders who hold the Wood Badge and celebrate the prospective holders of the Wood Badge 2 beads in Sabah in 2024.

“It also recognises the Wood Badge 2 beads for trained Scout leaders who have successfully completed the Wood Badge courses throughout 2023,” he said.

A total of 87 leaders was awarded the Wood Badge 2 beads, while 25 leaders received Trainer/Assistant Trainer/Guide certificates. The Sabah Scout Certificate of Appreciation was also awarded to 105 recipients.

The Gilwell Reunion was held in conjunction with the Sabah State Training Team Charity Dinner and Makrin, who is also the Deputy Chief Commissioner of the Sabah State Scout Association, said that the objective of the Charity Dinner was to support the growth and activities of the Sabah State Training Team in the future.

"The Sabah State Training Team of the Malaysian Scout Association will become more active and able to organize leadership courses and training for all our leaders in the state," he said.

“For over 117 years, leaders have gathered and learned at Gilwell Park in London. Initially, this event was part of the Wood Badge leadership training course. Now, the Gilwell Reunion is an opportunity to meet former colleagues who have gone through the Wood Badge course and are now scattered across the country, training and leading future leaders. Therefore, the Sabah State Gilwell Reunion 2024 aims to strengthen the bond among all Scout leaders in Sabah,” said Makrin.

The Sabah State Gilwell Reunion and Charity Dinner 2024 were officiated by the Assistant Minister of Youth and Sports Sabah, Datuk Fairuz bin Rendann, at the Raia Hotel in Kota Kinabalu.

Also present were representatives from the Sabah State Education Department, Malaysia Teacher Education Institute (Kent Campus), Malaysian Training Group (KLM) Sabah Zone, Sabah Youth Council, and federal and state department heads.
