SANDAKAN: A significant step towards elevating Sabah's football heritage has begun with a meeting involving veteran players from Sandakan who once represented the state.

The gathering was hosted by the Sandakan District Football Association (PBDS), represented by Vice President Haji Rusli Hassan, alongside experienced coaches Roslee Amat and Hamizan Hamidin.

It followed an official presentation to PBDS on proposals for a former Sabah players' database project and the development of the SDK Football Gallery to document the history and contributions of past players for future generations.

The initiative is led by Musketeers Football Academy under President Hardy Pudar, with PBDS as a strategic partner in strengthening local football heritage.

Hardy outlined follow-up programmes to reignite community spirit, including a Hi-Tea Reunion Gathering, a Legends Charity Match, and a Community Cup featuring former players as inspirational icons.

Additionally, plans include publishing a special book compiling veteran players' profiles, along with pilgrimage programmes and video biography recordings to ensure their stories and contributions endure.

The SDK Football Gallery is expected to serve as a vital platform for preserving Sandakan's football history and bridging old and new generations in a more structured, identity-driven ecosystem.
