KOTA KINABALU: Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan)'s Sebatik State Assemblyman Hassan Gani Amir today announced that he has left the party and is now an independent assemblyman who supports the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS)-led Government.

In a statement today, he expressed disappointment in the party which is still in tune with the Pakatan Harapan (PH)'s political pattern that places its priority on politics rather than the wellbeing of the people.

"Since the end of Sabah State Election (PRN) in September last year, I have been following and observing each political development, be it in the state or national level.

"Following the national development, particularly the battle over the pandemic which has yet to end, I see the need for political stability in the country which is important to ensure the government can give its absolute focus in handling Covid-19 and the people's wellbeing," he said.

He said among the moves taken by Warisan which saddened him is the rejection of the 2021 Federal Budget in Parliament.

"This move clearly shows that the interest of the people is put behind, especially in the efforts to address Covid-19 which requires budget allocations.

"The party leadership which is still in tune with Pakatan Harapan also puts out all the stops to threaten the government stability by attempting to change the prime minister's leadership," he said.

Hassan also pointed out that Warisan leadership has turned its back on grassroots members, including state assemblymembers from the party, especially when making important decisions on the party's directions.

"The party leadership also fails to initiate efforts to address the people burdened by Covid-19 in each constituency.

"Because of these reasons, I have made the decision to leave Warisan at once," he said.
