Seri Mengasih Centre Officially Launches Renovated ASD Training Centre in Kota Kinabalu

KOTA KINABALU: Seri Mengasih Centre marked a significant milestone with the official opening of its newly renovated Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Training Centre, officiated by Her Royal Highness Yang Amat Mulia Paduka Puteri Tunku Mariamz bte Al-Marhum Al-Mutawakkil Alallah Sultan Iskandar Al-Haj. The momentous event took place at the Seri Mengasih Centre in Tanjung Aru, Kota Kinabalu.
The refurbished ASD Training Centre represents a major step forward in Seri Mengasih Centre’s ongoing commitment to providing specialised support and inclusive opportunities for individuals with autism spectrum disorder. The upgraded facility is designed to enhance the quality of life for those on the spectrum by offering expanded training programmes, therapeutic interventions, and vocational skills development within a purpose-built and nurturing environment.
Her Royal Highness’s presence at the launch underscores the royal family’s dedication to championing causes that promote inclusivity and support vulnerable communities. Her patronage is expected to raise greater awareness and strengthen ongoing efforts to improve services for individuals with ASD across Sabah and beyond.

“We are incredibly honoured and deeply grateful for Her Royal Highness YAM Paduka Puteri Tunku Mariamz’s presence to officiate the opening of our new ASD Training Centre,” said Datuk Suzannah Liaw, Chairman of Seri Mengasih Centre’s Board of Trustees.
“This new facility is a testament to the collective efforts of our dedicated team, generous donors, and the community’s unwavering support. It will enable us to reach more individuals with ASD, providing them with the tools and opportunities they need to thrive and realise their full potential.”
The centre features dedicated classrooms, therapy rooms, sensory integration spaces, and vocational training areas, all carefully designed to meet the unique learning styles and needs of individuals with ASD. This expansion will facilitate the growth of Seri Mengasih Centre’s existing programmes, including early intervention, educational support, social skills training, and independent living skills.
Founded 44 years ago, Seri Mengasih Centre is renowned for practising the Kololo Method in collaboration with Kololo Japan, making it the only centre in Malaysia authorised to implement this approach since 2002. Tulip Noorazyze, Chairperson of the Management Committee and a member of the Board of Trustees, highlighted the centre’s success, sharing that it has trained students as young as three years old and has celebrated numerous success stories over the years.
