KOTA KINABALU: Seri Mengasih Centre, a non-governmental organisation dedicated to supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, recently hosted its first Family Day event since the Covid-19 pandemic.

Held at the newly renovated ASD Training Centre, the event was packed with engaging activities aimed at fostering unity, joy, and inclusivity among students, their families, and the centre’s staff.

Officiated by the centre’s Committee Management Chairman, Tulip Noorazyze, the event highlighted the vital role of family involvement in the holistic development of individuals with special needs. Families brought a delightful array of potluck dishes and refreshments to share, creating a warm and communal atmosphere.

The day featured a variety of lively and inclusive activities. Attendees kicked off the morning with an energising aerobic session, followed by a series of fun games that encouraged teamwork and interaction.

Students delighted the crowd with spontaneous performances, showcasing their unique talents in music, dance, and expression. These moments, full of laughter and applause, offered a glimpse into the students’ confidence and creativity.

The sharing of meals further strengthened the spirit of togetherness, allowing families and staff to bond over food and conversation.

“Our Annual Family Day is more than just an event; it’s a meaningful part of our mission to ensure our students and their families feel supported, valued, and connected,” said Tulip.

“Seeing the joy on our students’ faces as they engage alongside their families and peers is truly heartwarming. It reaffirms our belief that with love, understanding, and the right support, every individual can live a life of hope and dignity.”

The centre extended heartfelt thanks to the families, volunteers, and supporters whose contributions helped make the event a resounding success. Their continued commitment enables Seri Mengasih to carry on its vital work in empowering individuals with special needs to realise their full potential and integrate meaningfully into society.
