KOTA KINABALU: During the recent Ramadan season, Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) hosted its renowned “Resepi Nusantara – Asian Buffet 2026”, which welcomed a total of 30,172 diners from 26 February to 18 March 2026. The event was lauded not only for the impressive attendance but also for fostering a warm and convivial atmosphere, with families, friends, colleagues, and communities gathering to share in the spirit of Ramadan.
The SICC had marked a period of vibrant cultural and economic activity, highlighted by a successful Ramadan celebration and festive Hari Raya Aidilfitri event.
SICC CEO Datuk Dr. Hajah Rosmawati Haji Lasuki expressed her gratitude towards the dedicated team behind the event, emphasising that their hard work made the success possible. She also acknowledged the support of the guests, many of whom returned multiple times with different groups, demonstrating the event’s appeal and community support.

“This strong response reflects the ongoing support from our community and reinforces SICC’s role as more than just a venue for business, it is a platform that unites people through shared cultural and culinary experiences,” she said.
Looking ahead, SICC continues its tradition of organising major regional events, including the upcoming BigSabah Sale 2026. Scheduled from 30 October to 1 November 2026, the event is set to feature over 650 booths across multiple spaces within the centre. It aims to serve as a strategic marketplace for regional trade and engagement, bringing together a diverse range of businesses, SMEs, and brands across sectors such as gourmet foods, fashion, home living, and local heritage.
The event’s innovative layout is designed to create interconnected experiences, from a gourmet marketplace at Kinabatangan Hall with live cooking demonstrations to fashion and lifestyle segments at Sipadan Hall, alongside dedicated zones for emerging SMEs and entrepreneurs. This integrated approach fosters collaboration, discovery, and engagement across industries, positioning SICC as a catalyst for regional economic growth.

BigSabah Sale also acts as a gateway to the BIMP-EAGA growth corridor, a regional market of approximately 80 million people, providing practical opportunities for cross-border trade and business expansion. It exemplifies SICC’s evolving role, not just as an event venue, but as a platform for facilitating trade, economic activity, and regional connectivity.
To strengthen leadership and strategic growth, Rosmawati announced the appointment of Veronica Ngagasegaran as the new Director of Sales & Marketing, she said adding that her expertise will be vital in sharpening market strategies, deepening industry partnerships, and elevating SICC’s profile regionally and internationally.
Over the past year, SICC has hosted a total of 2,737 events, including 989 international gatherings, underscoring Sabah’s rising prominence as a competitive destination for business and events. Beyond the statistics, Rosmawati highlighted that these numbers reflect stronger partnerships, regional connectivity, and increased confidence in Sabah’s potential.
“The focus remains on building a platform that unites people, ideas, and opportunities, positioning Sabah as a key partner in regional growth,” she stated.
The event also served as an occasion to strengthen relationships and celebrate the spirit of togetherness. “Today is about connecting in a more meaningful way, renewing our appreciation for one another, and embracing the spirit that continues to propel us forward,” she added.
Rosmawati extended her heartfelt thanks to partners, stakeholders, and friends for their ongoing support, emphasising that it is through this shared effort that Sabah’s global presence will continue to grow.
As the centre celebrates its achievements and looks to the future, it reaffirms its commitment to being a vital hub for regional development and cultural exchange.
Also present during the event was Datuk Ghulamhaidar Khan Bahadar, the Sabah Foundation Director.
