KENINGAU: The Slingshot Wiramuda STARSabah competition for the N.40 Bingkor constituency brought together 173 participants from across Sabah in a lively celebration of sportsmanship, youthful enthusiasm, and unity.
Held at the Pisompuruan Open Hall, Gerakan Desa Wawasan (GDW) in Kampung Merampong, the event was officiated by Deputy Wiramuda STARSabah, Raziddin Datuk Robert Tawik, and further enhanced by the presence of Wiramuda Chief for Bingkor, Florian Ilon, alongside division committee members Harday Paulus and Harizal Hassan.
The competition drew not only local youth from Keningau but also participants from other districts including Tambunan, Ranau, Kota Kinabalu, Tenom, Sook, and Nabawan. This wide representation made it a truly inclusive, state-level platform for youth engagement and interaction.
Pontius TLS from Toboh Laut emerged as the overall champion, followed by Oboy BBSXKESC from Tenom as the first runner-up, and Evan KESC, also from Tenom, in third place. Participants finishing between fourth and thirtieth place received cash consolation prizes, while those ranked thirty-first to seventieth were presented with bags of rice in recognition of their enthusiastic involvement.
The competition concluded punctually at 8.50 p.m. and was widely regarded as a success, not only for its smooth organisation but for fostering a strong sense of camaraderie, friendly rivalry, and community spirit among the young participants. It also played a vital role in strengthening social bonds between rural and urban youth across Sabah.
The organisers extended heartfelt thanks to all participants, supporters, volunteers, and everyone who contributed directly or indirectly to the success of the event.
“Sporting spirit and youth unity continue to be strengthened through initiatives like this,” they said.
